THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF PORTRAIT PAINTERS | COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT

With a long history and proud to have had Queen Elizabeth II as their Patron, the RP was founded in 1891 to encourage the appreciation, study and practice of the art of portraiture.  The society represents some of the most talented British artists, supporting them, for example, with a commissioning service where prospective clients can seek expert advice.  The RP came to us to create a film which would illustrate its position at the forefront of contemporary portraiture, uphold its traditional values and give a glimpse into the magical and intimate experience of commissioning a portrait.

Filmmaking

Working closely with the Mall Galleries to develop the concept and process of commissioning a portrait, we filmed interviews with President Anthony Connolly and artists June Mendoza, Miriam Escofet and Jamie Routley. By hearing from this select but diverse group of artists, our aim was to focus on their expertise while highlighting how magical the process can be, when a sitter is paired with the right artist.  With the film gaining almost half a million views on social media, we hope that this increased digital presence will showcase the wonderful work the RP does to a much wider new audience.
